Travel to Pécs

By plane

Osijek Airport in Croatia is the closest international airport, located 70 km to the south of Pécs. The airport receives incoming flights from Germany, Bulgaria, Tunisia and larger cities in Croatia.

Sármellék Airport is in the southwestern corner of Lake Balaton, located 160 km from Pécs. The airport was reopened in April and receives incoming flights from several German destinations and Basel in Switzerland.

Liszt Ferenc Airport in Budapest is the largest airport in Hungary. It provides direct and indirect flight connections with many countries.

For those wishing to travel on to Pécs, there is an airport shuttle service. They can also travel by train (see further down) or rent a car in order to reach their final destination fast and comfortably.

By train

From Budapest Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Station) there are Intercity trains departing for Pécs every 2 hours, 8 times a day. The train trip takes 2 hours and 50 minutes. You can find the detailed timetable and fares HERE.

Visitors arriving from Zagreb have to change trains once or twice and have a travel time of about 5 hours. Trains to Pécs leave at 4 different times.

From Osijek, you can take the Dráva Intercity train that provides a fast and direct rail connection to Pécs.

Concerning rail discounts, fares and timetables in Hungary and the compulsory so-called registration tickets for passengers under 6 and above 65 respectively, you can obtain information by contacting the Customer Information Service Centre of the Hungarian Railway Company:

By bus/coach

From Budapest

From the Budapest-Népliget Bus Station, there are regular coach services to Pécs 7 times a day, with a duration of about 4 hours. Rapid services (on the M6 motorway) depart 5 times a day to Szekszárd, and further on to Pécs, with a total travel time of 3 hours and 20 minutes. Since the opening of the M6 motorway in March 2010, Pécs can be reached very quickly by road from Budapest.
